Here is a very good question that a friend has asked me

I Have Been Wondering Something...I Have Naturally Curly Hair, But Only Tend To Have It Flat Ironed When I Go To My Hair Girl! So, I Wanted To Start Trying It On My Own...Any Suggestions As To What To Put In So My Hair Has A Shine After I Flat Iron It.

Ok... lets start in the shower.

*When you are going to style your hair straight you have to begin with a shampoo that adds moisture and helps straighten curls.

my suggestion.... BAIN OLEO RELAX (Kerastase) I SWEAR BY THIS SHAMPOO!Bain Oleo-Relax gently cleanses and detangles for soft and shiny hair... I know this because i have curly hair too!

*don't forget a Hydrating Conditioner too... maybe something like...

Nutritive Lait Vital Protéiné Conditioner

Ok... now that your out of the shower... DO NOT Towel dry your hair all crazy.(if that makes sense) This causes tangles and future frizz! So just gently squeeze the water out. Comb your hair straight and let air dry for a little while until your hair is 90% dry...

if your in a hurry, use your blow dryer till your hair is 90% dry. Make sure you are keeping your hair IN control without letting it fly every were. this will help direct your hair to be straight instead of curly. Even use a paddle brush to smooth it as your drying it.

*use a cream or shine serum styling product...

*Now ROUND BRUSH it....

Round brushing can be very intimidating. But start with a good round brush that is easy to get through the hair. Part your hair into sections. And start from the bottom and go to the top. Don't try to round brush your hair without sectioning it.. you will get discouraged if you don't!

NOW ITS TIME TO STRAIGHTEN....

You guys... This is so important... make sure you have good Tools. without a good Flat iron its not going to look as good! Keep that in mind...

Again, Section your hair and start from the bottom and go to the top. Take time running your hair through the flat iron. Try not to straighten too much hair at one time.

FINNISH

If your hair is still dry and frizzy after all this work. Use a serum to smooth fly aways down. Next.... Look in the mirror at your hard work! you look amazing!

My hair History! I thought I would give a quick run down of my life as a hair dresser..

It all started when I was a little girl! I LOVED hair! Barbie hair, doll hair... my sister's hair and my brother's hair! I couldn't get enough of it! I would play Beauty Salon all the time!

I Always knew I would do hair. So, when I was a Jr. in High school I had the opportunity to start Hair School, and still get high school credit! So I began my adventure at age 17!

By the time I graduated High School I was almost done with Beauty School! I took a small break from hair after I graduated from beauty school and got married. My first stop after that was THE BRICK HOUSE RETREAT! I fell in love with this salon from the moment I walked in! The atmosphere, the people, the products, the clients! LOVE IT!
I was so lucky to become a part of the Brick House Team.

I worked hard to build a clientele that I love. A year later I was pregnant with my First little baby. Not long after she became part of our family, I returned back to the Salon! A short 9 months later I became pregnant with my 2nd (yeah that was a surprise)

I decided to leave the Brick House and build a business out of my home so I could be with my children! My husband created a darling salon in my basement that I enjoyed! A few years later we moved out of that house and moved into a new house that didn't have a salon. But this house is closer to the Brick House! I couldn't help myself but Return to my favorite place! So Here I am! Back where I started!

Recovering hair!

Here we are in Fall! Summer has come and gone and winter is on its way! So what does this have to do with your hair? DAMAGE! Weather is hard on the hair. Along with most everything we do to our hair, like drying it, styling it, and touching it. And Don't forget how bad Coloring and perming is on your hair also!!

This picture is a healthy hair shaft magnified 1000 times. The cuticle lies flat around the hair shaft and is considered "healthy"The scales of the hair start protruding as a result of it being continually washed, dried, permed or colored. You can see this happening with hair that is difficult to comb through, tangling after a shampoo. Hair stylists often refer to hair in this condition as "porous" The surface of the hair is not smooth anymore; it has become uneven and rough.

This is what "porous" hair looks like under the microscope. Hair is considered "damaged" when the cuticles start to lift up. However in this state your hair is still healthy enough. There are different degrees that the cuticle can protrude. When the cuticle has deteriorated to the extent that it exposes part of the inside of the hair, the hair loses some of its protein (amorphous protein). Hair in this condition is truly damaged. In this state hair can and will break off on some parts of the head. It is not falling out. It is breaking off. The cause is usually bleaching and coloring your hair every four weeks to achieve platinum blond hair colors. Truly damaged hair will have lost its elasticity and bounce and it won't bend, won't hold a style because it has lost too much of its protein. It is the protein which gives hair its elasticity and bounce.
